Combining a passion for music with a deep commitment to inclusive teaching, Gemma has dedicated her career to helping people of all ages and abilities discover, develop, and enjoy their musical potential.
Before embarking on her teaching career, Gemma performed extensively throughout the West Midlands, gaining valuable experience as a vocalist and musician in a variety of live performance settings. During this time, she worked alongside live bands, recorded in professional studio environments, and wrote and performed her own original material. These experiences provided her with a comprehensive understanding of the music industry, which she now brings into her teaching to give students practical insight into performance, creativity, and musicianship.
Over the past two decades, Gemma has taught in a wide range of educational environments, supporting learners from Early Years through to Secondary education. Her extensive classroom experience has enabled her to develop a flexible and adaptive teaching style that meets the individual needs of each student. Whether working with young beginners, developing musicians, or students requiring specialist support, Gemma is committed to creating meaningful and engaging musical experiences that build confidence, independence, and enjoyment.
A significant area of Gemma’s expertise lies within Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Throughout her career, she has undertaken extensive professional development to deepen her understanding of inclusive education and effective teaching strategies for diverse learners. She has gained qualifications in Performing Arts and Mental Health and further enhanced her specialist knowledge by completing a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) in Sounds of Intent at the University of Roehampton. This internationally recognised framework has strengthened her ability to support students with complex learning difficulties and profound educational needs through music.
Gemma has extensive knowledge and practical experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), social, emotional and mental health needs, sensory processing differences, communication difficulties, and a broad range of additional learning needs. She understands that every learner experiences music differently and takes great care to ensure her teaching is accessible, supportive, and tailored to the individual. Her inclusive approach enables students to participate confidently, achieve success, and develop a genuine connection with music regardless of their starting point.
Central to Gemma’s philosophy is the belief that music has the power to transform lives. She recognises the profound impact that music can have on emotional wellbeing, self-expression, confidence, communication, and social development. She is particularly passionate about using music as a tool to support positive mental health and create opportunities for individuals to express themselves in ways that may not always be possible through words alone.
Gemma remains committed to lifelong learning and continually seeks opportunities to expand her professional knowledge and understanding of both music education and inclusive practice. By staying informed about current research, teaching methodologies, and developments within SEND education, she ensures that her students benefit from the highest quality learning experiences.
Known for her warm, friendly, and encouraging nature, Gemma creates a learning environment where students feel safe, valued, and inspired to explore their creativity. Her lessons are designed to be engaging, enjoyable, and student-centred, allowing learners to progress at their own pace while developing the skills, confidence, and passion needed to succeed. She believes that everyone has a voice, everyone deserves the opportunity to be heard, and that music can help people find that voice in a truly meaningful way.
